谈谈转移形容词在考试中的用法

Transferred epithet叫作转移修饰或简称移就这种修饰不直接说明它修饰对象的性质、形象或特色,而往往转个弯子去表示该对象给人的某种感觉。

如:a dizzyheight眼晕的高度(a height thatcauses people to feel dizzy)

asleepless bed不安枕(a bed on which thesleeper has little sleep

例:I sawthatturbulent emotions possessed her, so I asked what I thought wouldbe some sedative questions about her little girl.

解析:turbulent emotions译成汹涌澎湃的感情,把sedativequestions译成有镇静作用的问题,那就没有达到学习的

参考译文:我看到她心情很不平静,于是便问了问她小女儿的情况,以为这样可以使她平静一些。

例:After anunthinking moment, she put her pen into her mouth.

解析:unthinking指的是she

参考译文:她想了一会儿,想不出什么来,就把钢笔含在嘴里。

例:Anawed hush fell upon the bystanders.

解析: awedbystanders

参考译文:旁观的人都惊愕得说不出话来。

例:I had aglimpse of Mrs. Wilson straining at the garage pump with pantingvitality as we went by.

解析:panting显然是指Mrs Wilson

参考译文:我们经过时,我瞥见威尔逊太太浑身是劲在加油机旁喘着气替人加油。

例:With aneffort I managed to restrain my incredulous laughter.

解析:incredulous实际指I

参考译文:我好不容易才忍住了笑,他的话太令人难以置信了。

例:The maid came back. Her manner suggestedto my excited fancy a complete knowledge of the domesticcalamity.

解析:excitedmy有关

参考译文:女佣人又回来了。从她的神情看,她似乎完全知道这家人家遭遇的不幸,这也可能是我激动,胡乱猜测的感觉。

例:There was about all of them an airof well-satisfiedprosperity.

解析:well-satisfiedthem

参考译文:这里的人全都带着一种殷实富足、踌躇满志的神情。
